Secondary School: My Experience

Hate to start this on a bad note but this is not easy for me to write and to be really honest with you I've had to sensor a lot of things because, I don't mind getting personal, but there is parts where it gets Personal with a capital P. Anyway what my experience taught me there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Lets start at the beginning: Year 7. Okay imagine a lanky girl with a bob wearing a really oversized uniform. Yes Willy Wanker is still fresh in my mind. But my first day/ week is a bit of a blur all I remember is making friends with this girl who, at the time seemed like a great friend, but in hindsight used me and thought that I was vulnerable and an easy friend. At the age and time I thought it would be a great idea to share my BIGGEST SECRET EVER with this girl and needless to say that it spread round the year group like wildfire. I got tormented rotten for it, but at the end of the day I now realise that it was all meaningless and shouldn't have affected me the way it did. Things at home have never been great but school was my kind of release, my safe place, but that was torn away from me all because I trusted the wrong person. This then caused me to start acting up and just being a little shit. By the end of Year 7 I must have been excluded 10 times at least. I was also very friendless because nobody wanted to be friends with the naughty broken kid.

After a summer spent in beautiful Egypt, Year 8 roles around and in retrospect this was probably the best school year. I was doing well in all my subjects, but school wasn't my happy place and nor was home I got confused and anxious. It was also around this time that I met the person who I should probably punch but thank at the same time, I'll call this person Paper for privacy reasons. So naturally Paper new of my secret and at first we were friends but then my moods would just swing and I would be horrible to everyone close to me and that meant that Paper and I were no longer friends. We would have arguments all the time, sometimes physical fights, one of which ended in paper sitting on my. Not only did I get into fights with Paper I also got into a lot, and I mean A LOT of arguments and fights with other people, more so with this one girl, we shall name her Fairy. I was angry and jealous at Fairy for being friends with that girl that I was friends with in year 7, looking back it wasn't Fairy's fault. I was just an angry little kid.

In Year 9, I had even more arguments with Fairy, but coinsidently it was the year that I met one of my bestest friends. The broken kid was fixed. Or so they thought, things at home were just going from bad to worst and that meant that I would lash out more at school. It was my way of releasing all my anger and jealousy. At times I would just become another person. At school I was this loud, angry, aggressive and disruptive kid but at home I was the complete opposite. This is also the year that I got diagnosed with depression.

Year 10 came and this was the worst year of my life, home life and school life. I was just getting into loads of arguments with these girls and butting into arguments that were not even my arguments to have. All this arguing was getting to me and without going into to much detail, things at home were horrendous. I got so depressed that I tried to end my own life. I dont think I will ever be able to explain how bad thing actually were. Just imagine being tied to the floor and having a brick put on you one by one, at first you can handle it but suddenly it all gets to much. Thats when I moved school, I knew the problem wasn't the school it was me. I needed a new start. And so did my family, they moved to the other side of the world. I was alone.

Once I moved school, I became so much happier, was able to come off antidepressants, I reinvented myself. I was no longer that angry naughty girl who picked fights with anything that had a pulse. I was the new girl and nobody knew me. I met the most amazing people and came out with enough qualifications to go and do what I want to do and for once in 5 years my life is looking up.

When I talk to my friend that I made in year nine, it's weird seeing and hearing about yourself from someone elses point of view but then nobody has every really seen it from mine. Nobody really knew the struggles and battles I was fighting everyday. But I can finally see the light

All About That Blusher

For as long as I have been into makeup, I just didn't really wear blusher because I just had so many problems with it because I am quite pale but, ALAS I have finally found some techniques and blushers that work well.

My favorite Blushers to use are;

  • Sleek Rose Gold because this offers such a nice highlight and has great pigmentation.
  • MUA blusher in Bon Bon because it is a perfect subtle coral for pale skins, I think this would look great on redheads!
  • TopShop Cream Blusher in Head Over Heels, it looks quite shocking in the pan but I like to dab my finger in lightly and really work it into my skin. This blush works best with a more intense eye/ lip look

The way that I have applied my blush recently has a big part in my kindled love for it. So before I use to apply blush with a standard blush circle brush, however that didn't suit my face so then I invested in an Angled Blush Brush from MAC and then I apply it on the apples of my cheeks and then really bring it up onto my cheek bones.

How I Blog

Everyone has their own routine to blogging and today I wanted to share my routine with you all.

PLANNING

Okay so at the start of the month I have a checklist of new lists to write(!) Which normally takes me about 2 hours to complete. The first checklist is The Update. This one is where I tick off things I have to update such as my blog stats, media kit etc etc. The second one is my favorite one and that's the monthly blog post checklist and it looks something like this:

That leads me onto the next stage:

PHOTO'S

I always bulk produce my photos and that includes setting them up, editing and relabeling them. For my photos I just use a Samsung Point and Shoot Camera, I normally spend around 8 hours doing this, taking away the brakes I give myself.

WRITING.

The same as photos I like to bulk write because its not everyday that you feel inspired to write and I think you guys can tell when a post is uninspired. I schedule them way in advance as you can see above though, I don't write all my posts at once. This normally takes an hour a post to write and I tend to write 4 posts each time on average so therefore I write for about 4 hours.

SOCIAL MEDIA
Sometimes I schedule tweets but lets be real I'm on twitter 24/7 but lets say I'm a good little blogger and actually schedule my tweets and promote my posts I say this takes about 2 hours.

This is how I blog. It takes me about 16 hours a week to do blog type of things which is the same hours as a part time job, which I would prefer to blog than part time work. I think blogging shouldn't be seen as a job and it should be fun.

If you're a blogger how many hours do you blog a week and if your not a blogger how long do you reckon bloggers blog?

How To The Most Productive Day Of Your Life

Up until recently I was the laziest most unproductive person I have ever known! But alas, after following these tips and guidelines, everyday has been super productive so I thought I would try and help anybody who just needs a kick up the bum! Lets Begin...

BE A RABBIT, NOT A POTATO

One of my biggest tips is to manage your time, this is something that I use to suck at. I would just sit at my desk and have loads of things to do and not have a clue when they need to be done by so I would just waste my time on social media. PRODUCTIVE. But seriously, the best way that I found to manage my time is by making a reasonable to do list. The reason I say reasonable is because I know from personal experience that if you have a to do list as long as your are, your just going to feel overwhelmed and nothing will get done. On that note, you must stick to your to do list, the way I found best to do this is by adding times/dates next to the dates that the tas needs to be done by, prioritising the urgent tasks.

I really struggle with getting up early but I really try and make an effort to wake up before 9am and when I do I have such a more productive day. It's small things that can have the biggest impact.

Invest in a planner and plan your day. This way you know what you are doing when and can manage your time a 100% better.

NOBODY SAID IT WAS GOING TO BE FUN

Just as a general rule of thumb I like to all the boring things first like, chores and painting my toenails and then I can go on to do the more interesting and fun things; BLOGGING.

PREPARATION IS KEY

"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail". Simple things lie preparing your clothes the night before or laying out your makeup can help you have a productive day just that little bit more

What are your tips for a productive day?

Why TopShop Beauty is the Best

Whenever I go into Topshop, I will always have at least two beauty items at the end, without fail. So today I thought was the perfect opportunity to tell you why I love it so much.

There are 3 main reasons why I love TopShop Beauty more than other clothing shops makeup;

1.Packaging: It's so cute and photogenic but apart from appearance, it's so lightweight. The Lipstick packaging is made of metal so that the lipstick doesn't melt so much in the summer as it would in plastic packaging. The Blushers are extra lightweight but are well made and they come with a compact mirror so they are great for traveling. TopShop do lip bullets which are slimline and don't have any extra packaging then necessary.

2.Formulation of the lipsticks is incredible because they are so long lasting, also the creme blushers particularly are great for in the summer months because the oils from my face don't eat the product up.

3. The Scent is amazing because... it doesn't have one! I like my makeup not to have a scent to them because if they are all different and then they all mix and nobody want's that now do they?

Have you tried any TopShop Makeup? What are your thoughts?

Quotes I Live By

I have a pinterest board of all my favorite quotes and personal inspiration, if you want to follow it you can here

The Perfect Red Lipstick, That Won't Cost You An Arm And A Leg

Hands up if you find it overly hard to find the ''Perfect Red Lipstick''? Yeah, me too. Alas, look no further, I have the answer for you...

Of course it was going to be from L'Oreal. Oh how I love that brand! This lipstick adds to my every growing collection of red lipstick, but Blake's Red is P-E-R-F-E-C-T! Let me break it down for you;

The scent is incredible. I am a huge fan of parma violets and it honestly baffles me how anyone couldn't love them, however if you don't like that scent then I would void this whole collection.

Packaging is beautiful, some of my lipsticks have lids were it smushs  the actual product therefore making it 10x harder to use in the morning, however the packaging for this product is designed so that the product never happens because it has a little cut out so that it closes nicely. Also the lid is tailored to the same shape as the bullet.

A struggle I always find when looking for the perfect red lipstick is that the pigmentation and formulation never go hand in hand. L'Oreal Colour Riche Collection have definitely fixed this problem, the actual colour of Blake's' Red is very dense and opaque, that being said in no way does this product sit heavy on the lips and is long lasting also.

The Carry On Essentials Guide

So it is official traveling season, most commonly known as Summer . Everytime I say summer I automatically think of Olaf from Frozen. But yes,it is officially summer if you could even call it that. Near enough everyone I know is going away on holiday whether it abroad or to somewhere in Britain. No matter where or when you go on holiday I feel it is always essential to have a carry on or hand luggage of sorts. However I always face two different with hand luggage; I never know what to pack therefore always over packing. That being said I wanted to help others out but just giving you a list of all the essentials.

Firstly I like to pack a notebook and pen. I always pack these because sometimes I like to put pen to paper when I have ideas and its also good for doodling if you get board i also make sure to pack about two pens as I have had my pen run out on me before but its also good for colouring and highlighting if you need too so essentially you're killing two birds with one stone.

Something I would never be without is my Kindle. I always download at least ten books before I go on holiday and I normally read one of the books whilst traveling I also download music onto my kindle so that I don't waste up all my phone battery.

I haven't ever really seen the point of taking a bag load of makeup with you in you carry on however I more than anyone understand that makeup s a confident booster and who doesn't want to feel confident all the time? What I normally take is just some concealer blusher mascara and a tinted lipbalm. I chose a lipbalm over lipstick or lipgloss because when traveling especially on an aeroplane you lips and skin can become so dehydrated.

When travelling in a plane I normally pack two moisturisers one for my face and then one for my hands however when I travel by other means I just tend to pack my hand cream and then put the face moisturizer into my suitcase.

When sitting for a long time I've noticed how knotty the back of my hair can get so i now just pack a travel sized hair brush with me to avoid looking like I've stuck two wet hands in a plug socket.

What do you pack in your carry-on?

Upping My Blog Game

So over the next couple of weeks you will probably be able to notice some changes on Charlotte's Corner, because I feel like my style is changing and I really want to reflect that through my blog. I'll give you a little heads up first though!

PHOTOGRAPHY.

One of my biggest annoyances with my blog has been my photography. I actually did a photography course at college so I am more than able to take photo's I just never had anything to take them with but now I have invested in a swanky new camera to take the photographs I actually want on my blog.

CONTENT.

Now that I am off college I have a lot of free time which means that I can take a lot more time on the content that I am producing and now I am only publishing content that I am 100% happy with.

SCHEDULING.

I am now going to be a lot more organised and I have now devised a new blogging schedule so that new posts go up every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

SOCIAL MEDIA.

I am currently in the process of setting up a new themed instagram account but unfortunately my phone is broken so I'll let you guys know more of that when it's ready, but in the mean time you can always interact with me on Twitter and Pinterest which I'm aiming to be more active on.

BLOG DESIGN.

I now feel like my blog channels my style of simplicity but if there is anything else you want on my blog don't hesitate to ask.

Thats all for now. Have a great day.

Things To Do This Summer

For me, the summer holidays have just begun and I'm already starting to get a little board so today I thought that I would compile a list of all my favorite activities to do during the summer.

Picnics are one of my favorite summer activities. I just gather all my friends and go to the local park grab some snacks and drinks from the local supermarket and just go and chill for a couple of hours whilst I take in all the sun.

Next is one I prefer to do with family and that is a treasure hunt. Someone will write a list of all the things we need to find and then we go off round our local area and find those things. This activity really feels up the day.

Now for one that you don't need any other company for and that is: Start A Blog!!!

I always enjoy improving myself so here are a few things I want to do this summer:

Read 20 self improvement books
Learn a new language (I'm going to be learning italian)
Find a new hobby
Learn a new skill, i.e Creative writing, singing ect.

What will you be doing to fill up your summer days?

Than you for reading

Primark Eye Shadow Quads Review

Who knew PRIMARK did makeup? Decent makeup at that! Today I am going to be reviewing the beautiful eyeshadow quads.

These eyeshadows have amazing pigmentation and actual resemble the colours in the pan when you put them on your lid. I don't know about you but that is one of my biggest pet peeves with makeup, when it looks really nice in the packaging and then when you put it on your face it turns into a completely different product.

These eyeshadows are also really easy to blend and for the amazing price of just £2 I was not expecting them to be this easy to blend. These quads also come with a mirror so are travel friendly. The only negative thing that I have to say about these eyeshadows are that they emit a lot of dust and fallout so I only use them if I'm not in a rush.

Have you tried any Primark P.S Beauty Products?

3 Products I Regret Buying

It's not very often that I will be products, especially beauty products, without doing some research first. However the impulses take over and the products just starts screaming at me "buy me, BYE ME". Please just bare in mind that some of the brands of the products I've mentioned I love other products but these particular products just did not float my boat.

Firstly is the Burberry Kisses Lipstick in Nude Beige, the reason I didn't like this product is that for the price I was expecting it to last longer on my lips rather than be dissolved after 5 minutes also for the price I would have expected the pigmentation to be better. Another reason that I regret buying this lipstick is that when I got it the product FELL OUT OF THE BULLET! So then I had to smush it back in and it has never been the same since.

On to a more affordable product, Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit. My main problem with this product is that it doesn't have different colours for different skin tones. I have very pale skin so therefore the contour shade was to dark and the highlight shade was the same colour as my skin. Also the powders seem to be very chalky and the product doesn't last very long.

Talking of products that don't last very long, last but by no means least is the Seventeen Mascara which in my opinion smells like gone off nail glue. This mascara really does nothing for my lashes and after 2 hours the makeup monster has eaten it all!

What Makeup Products do you regret buying?

Makeup Starter Kit

Hi again everyone, so today I thought it would be nice to talk about a Makeup Starter Kit and I know that when I first started liking makeup, a blog post like this would have been a real cheat sheet so lets begin...

The way that I'm going to write this post is in the way you would apply your makeup. So naturally I'm going to start with base.

Firstly you may want a primer. What a primer's many jobs is, is to act as a barrier for your skin so that the makeup doesn't clog up your pores. Another job of a primer is to fill in your pores and ensure your makeup stays on all day. I recommend the following:

Maybelline Baby Skin
Max- Factor Face Infinity
L'Oreal  Infallible 24hr Matte

After primer you will need either a foundation or a a BB cream. A foundation tends to be of a higher coverage so if you feel like you want to cover more I would suggest these foundations:

Rimmel Match Perfection
L'Oreal True Match
L'Oreal Infallible 24hr Matte

However if you want a lighter base then I recommend:

Bourjois Paris BB Bronzing Cream 8-in-1
L'Oreal Paris Nude Magique BB
Rimmel BB Cream 9 in 1 Makeup

To set everything in place I would recommend using the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder.

For Bronzing and Highlighting I would recommend the sleek contour kit which also includes a blusher.

For brows I would recommend trying out quite a few things first but my favorite to use is the MUA eyeshadow in penny.

Eyeshadows are really hard to recommend but the Flawless Matte Palette from Makeup Revolution is such a good deal for money. You get 32 really high quality, well pigmented, blendable eyeshadows for just £8

Depending on what look you are going for I would recommend the following Mascara's:

Rimmel Extra Super Lash Mascara
Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara
Revlon Fabulash Mascara

Lastly for lipsticks I would recommend checking out the MUA stand as most are just £1

Current Favorites

In this post today I am going to separate all the things I have been loving, beauty and non-beauty favorites into their relative subcategories.

BEAUTY

Makeup:

  • First off is the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation, I have been loving this foundation recently because with the summer in full swing (She says as it is pouring down with rain) this foundation is super light however it offers the perfect amount of coverage.
  • On the same Rimmel note I have been loving their new(ish) Lasting Finish Concealer . This really rivals my M.A.C Prolongwear and for me it doesn't crease underneath my eyes which is such a selling point for me.
  • Another Rimmel Concealer favorite is the Wake Me Up. Not being a fan of the foundation I let the concealer just sit in my drawer but the other day I whacked it back out and haven't stopped using it .
  • For bronzers I have been loving the Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Bronzer in the Shade Golden Days combined with the Bourjois Delice de Poudre Duo.

Skincare

Recently I have been loving the Soap & Glory The Ultimelt Deep Purifying Hot Cloth Cleanser his is a great pamper item. I use it about once a week at the end of the week to treat my face. The product is thick and creamy and smells amazing (as do all of S&G’s products). I massage it into my face as per the directions and then wipe it off with the cloth provided. My face is left wonderfully soft, smooth and radiant. I absolutely love it. Another great product in the range.

LIFESTYLE

T.V Shows (I'm just going to list them so that there are No Spoilers)

  • Orange Is The New Black
  • Once Upon A Time
  • Dance Moms
  • Criminal Minds

Music

  • Lost Frequencies- Are You With Me
  • Milky Chance- Stolen Dance
  • Kygo- Stole The Show
  • Ed Sheeran- Gold Rush

Movies

  • Spy
  • Insurgent
  • Avengers- Age Of Ultron

BLOGS

THE BEST FROM MAKEUP REVOLUTION

Ah Makeup Revolution; A beauty blogger's new found friend. I can understand why though; Low rice and AMAZING quality (what's not to love?). Today I wanted to add my 2 pennies worth and talk you through my top picks and why I love them.

First up is the Iconic palettes. I love these as they are such good dupes for the Naked palettes from Urban Decay yet they are a fraction of the price.

On the same lines of the Iconic Palettes I also love the new Iconic Pro palettes which have 12 shades in which are super pigmented and really blendable. The have been compared to the Lorac Prom Palettes.

Even more eyeshadow next but they're all matte in the Flawless Matte palette. I have green eyes and finding the perfect eyeshadow palette for my eye colour has proven difficult but not anymore thanks to Makeup Revolution.

My next pick is actually their VIVID BAKED BRONZER IN GOLDEN DAYS, seeing as summer is just around the corner I find that this bronzer adds the most perfect amount of bronzing to my face. I have a lot of problem with bronzers as I am quite pale but Makeup Revolution have definitely hit the nail on the head

What are your top picks from Makeup Revolution?

Concealer 101

My Brushes 101 seemed to go down really well so I was thinking of making this into a little series on Charlotte's Corner. Today I wanted to discuss Concealers and what the different ones do.

Creamier consistency concealers such as the Rimmel Lasting Finish one is great for covering any spots/ blemishes/ pigmentation. This consistency is not good for under the eyes as it is quite heavy and can cause creasing.

The Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer is one of my favorites for under the eyes as it is fairly light and has good pigmentation.

Highlighting pens such as the Maybelline Dream Touch Lumi are really good when cream contouring or for highlighting under the eye's.

Last but not least is long lasting concealer. Budget friendly versions include the cult classic Collection Lasting Perfection which is super creamy and high coverage, then you have the MAC prolongwear concealer that is pricier but does a great job at everything- undereye concealing and highlighting, priming the eyelids for shadow, covering redness. JUST FAB!

My Foundation Routine

So I love wearing makeup and one thing that I love applying strangely is foundation. I wanted to share my foundation routine with you because some people might be interested or looking for a new foundation or maybe looking for a way to apply their foundation.

So as you can see I own a fair few foundations and they're just my mostly worn ones! They all have different qualities and uses so therefore I chose different ones depending on what look I'm going for so let me talk you through each one and why I love them;

  • Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Nude with SPF 20 is a great everyday medium coverage base. I prefer to apply this with a brush as I find that way I get the nicest texture and finish which is very much satin as it feels smooth on the face, I would say that this foundation is more on the dewy side. It definitely does not last for 25hr so therefore I always try to get the most wear out of it by setting it with a powder and using a primer.
  • M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid is a great maximum coverage foundation and I love applying this with a damp beauty blender as this is the way that I get maximum coverage. This foundation does have SPF in it but for me it doesn't create flash back so it's great for special occasions.
  • Rimmel Match Perfection is a great low to medium coverage dewy foundation. I like wearing this when I'm just running errands or if I want to look highlighted. I have dry skin and sometimes it can look really dehydrated so this foundation really adds some extra glow!
  • L'Oreal Infallible 24hr Matte foundations is a great long lasting bullet proof low end version of Estee Lauder Double Wear. I love wearing this when I have a lot to do or when I'm going to work as work can sometimes get really hot and like I said this foundation is BULLET PROOF.
  • Next is L'Oreal True Match and I love this at is super dewy and adds a really nice glow to the skin, It's water based so does feel like it adds extra hydration back into my skin. I prefer wearing this when my skin looks super dry as to not look like a grease ball!

What are your go to foundations and how do you apply them?

What I look for in a blog

So, I know that my blog isn't crazy awesome of anything but I thought I would write this post to help aspiring bloggers like myself to give you all an insight into a reader's perspective.

So the first thing I like is that its easy to control. I don't want things to be popping up in my face and distracting me from the content, I'll just click off the blog.

NEVER EVER, EVER have music on your blog, if I'm at work or College and your favorite song starts blasting out you can bet your mascara collection that I will not be returning. Also your music taste probably isn't the same as mine.

I personally prefer Black text on a white background especially if there is a lot of text!

That leads me on to my next point, I don't want to be sitting there for hour reading about how great the pigmentation in your favorite blush is. Just get to the point!!!

My Holiday Skin Care

This year I'm going aboard. Woo Hoo!!! So therefore that means that my Skincare will temporarily Have to change because of the hotter climates.

Here is what I'll be packing in my skincare bag;

Bioderma Micellar Water in Sensibio H2O in 100ml travel sized bottle which was incredibly hard to get hold of seeing as I live in the U.K
Clinique All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage which will be going in my carry on bag as the air conditioning and altitude make my eyes really puffy
Garnier Micellar Water in the morning
Simple Kind to Skin Light Moisturiser
Superdrug BB eye Cream
Origins Super Spot Remover just in case!
REN ClearCalm 3 Anti-Blemish Clay Cleanser decanted into a pot (and is all I now have left!)

Haircare Routine

In recent times, my hair has not been in the best of conditions. From copious amounts of box dyes ranging from Ginger to Black then having it striped and bleached blonde, to ombre, it's fair to say that my have has been through a battlefield full of harsh chemicals. That's probably why it's a good idea to devise an amazing haircare routine that will hopefully restore your hair to a natural or better condition. Just a little note before we start is that these products work for me and my hair type, style, colour and condition. This post will not tell you what will work for your hair, as I don't know the type, style, colour and condition your hair is in. However I do hope that you can get some tips if your hair is like mine which is dry, short, damaged and wavy.

My hair care essentials are definitely a good shampoo and conditioner. I must admit I have tried many of Shampoo and Conditioners are I believe I have got the best Shampoo and Conditioner strategy going. I use the Tresemme Silky Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner all over my scalp. This helps restore moisture back to my hair and reduce breakage. Next I go in with the Pro-Voke purple Shampoo at the ends of my hair to maintain the blonde ombre.

About once a week I use a mask on my hair and the one I like to use is L’Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Pro-Keratin Refill Hair Masque– an intensely nourishing hair treatment designed to specifically treat your weak, damaged hair. This masque is deeply nourishing and conditioning, and will leave your locks so luscious and soft – lovely!
